Automatic Inventory Update

I have been developing a database for the company I work for. Ideally what I
would like the database to do is to automatically update my inventory. Here's
an example: one of our knives has 4 screws, and a pivot button. I have the
tables for my total number of screws and pivot buttons. When I remove the
knife from my inventory table I would like Access to update the individual
inventory tables for the screws and pivot buttons. This would give me a real
time inventory of my supplies that would be updated everytime I take a knife
out of WIP. Thanks in advance for any help and I apologize if this sounds
like a completely stupid question.

Access has an "inventory" template (because this is such a frequent use of
relational databases) for creating a new database; that would be an
excellent place to start your own,
