It doesnt work in VBA or need to install and make a reference to something
(maybe MDAC).
AFAIR it can be done simply thru a Win API.am i right?
Any comments ?

WMI is already on machines of W2k and up and can be added to Win98 > and NT4.
It is a free download from Microsoft.
