Hello,

I have been asked to write a small inventory application where the item id's
and descriptions need to be kept in both English and Chinese.  I have all
versions of access from 2000-2007 available.  I believe the text fields have
to have the Unicode setting on, but how do I allow input into both the
English Field and the Chinese field in their respective language in Access?
So far, I've just been able to "paste" translations from AltaVista Babel
Fish into the Chinese Fields and key into the English Fields.

So, I would like to be able to have an input form into these fields:

Chinese ID:      Chinese-writing
English ID:       B54-5LB
Chinese Description:   Chinese writing
English Description:    5 pound bag of white rice

Hopefully that makes sense.  Thanks a lot.

you will need to install chinese input software to be able to input chinese
characters.
for windows vista you can do so via the control panel language options.
for windows xp and earlier versions of windows you will will have to install
3rd party chinese input software.

Thanks Fred.

Do you or anyone know about the Multilingual User Interface Pack or the
Arial Unicode MS Font?

I guess the more I think about this, it would be nice to allow the user to
switch the app into their appropriate language, or at least the input
screens.  This is like bable fish where you can have it translate the entire
web-page or web-site (not sure how well it does) but something like that.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

nope. i don't know anything about "multilingual user interface pack" or the
"arial unicode ms font" and i don't know anyone who does. where did you hear
about them? do they meet your requirement?

in windows vista, you can install as many language as you want. a language
bar will then appear. your user can then select from the language bar the
language he/she wants. i suppose this is the closest you can get to a
multilingual  environment without any additional installation. however, if
i'm not wrong, the text of the labels on your form would remain in English.
