Navigation Bar Question

I've created 3 split forms in AC 2007. The Form Properties are identical
except for
the Record Source, of course.
Each form when opened the Navigation Bar is 'grayed out' until I select
a row in the data sheet. One form the Navigation Bar remains 'grayed out'
unless
I select a row other than the first row. The second form when I select a row
the
Navigation Bar shows only the record number and the number of records is
missing
until I select another row. The third form when I select the first row seems
to be fine.
What surprises does the fourth form have.
Any ideas?

James
