When following the instructions at

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/off2000/html/ac
howImportAttachSqlDatabaseTablesS.asp

the link table wizard suddenly disappears (Access 2000 returns to normal
database view) when I double-click (or single-click for that matter) the
machine/system ODBC data source as instructed in step 3.  No error message is
displayed.

I am able to connect to the very same data source without any trouble in
Excel 2000 via the database query wizard.  I am using Windows 2000 SP4, the
latest ODBC drivers, and have tried three versions of MySQL, including the
latest beta binary.  The database is on the local machine.

I found an explanation elsewhere: it's a bug in the Windows 2000 Roll-Up 1
update from Microsoft.  The simplest workaround is to take the pre-roll-up
msjet40.dll file and first copy it to the system32/dllcache directory, and
then copy it to the system32 directory.  The file must be copied to those two
locations in that order or else you will be thwarted by Windows File
Protection.  After this, ODBC table linking works fine.

The same problem affects Windows 2003/Access 2003 after Service Pack 1 is
intalled.  The workaround is the same.
