Hi. Am trying to merge data from an MSAccess database, into MSWord using
Office 2000.

However, when I select the merge option in Word, and point to the database,
Word hangs and the progress bar displays "Waiting for Access to accept DDE
commands". This error occurs on all 5 machines on my home network whether I
try to run this over the LAN or on a client machine when disconnected from
the LAN.

Is this something that can be fixed?

Hi Ritchie,

I wonder if it could be your security/antivirus software settings that
are causing this. Norton in particular has a name for causing
comparable problems.

Try disconnecting a machine from the netowrk and temporarily disabling
its antivirus software. Does this let the mailmerge work?

Thanks....

I used AVG and disabled it. I did as you said, and disconnected the machine
from the LAN. I tried to run the system locally - no good.

I took the database to a friends and ran it on his Office XP enabled system
- it worked a treat (something about using ONDB istrad of DDE?).

Anyway I am now waiting for my Office upgrade pack to come and that will
hopefully solve the problem.

Thanks.
