got a couple users of an access app i am working on that just got new
machines with xp home sp2 pre-installed.  when they try to run the installer
i made with the packaging wizard that includes the system update and access
2002 runtime they get an error about: office system pack can not be
installed... requires nt4 sp6 or later.   i would hope that xpsp2 is a bit
later than nt4sp6!  what else would trigger this message??

thanks, either that is brand new or i am losing my touch searching the
database... but i sure didn't find that last week when i started researching
this problem.  hopefully that is the fix, i did find a workaround by skipping
the osp completely and just doing the 2002 runtime.  its kind of funny,
trying another 'fix' from a different article that says to run the osp
installation manually results in a different error... it says the osp is not
required on the systems.  and sure enough the 2002 runtime seems to work just
fine without it.

I'm re-opening this issue...

I've done the work around in:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;837150

It did work at the time (a few months ago).  But now another client just got
a new laptop from Dell with XP Pro, complete with patches and SPs, and he's
getting the same message post work-around.

I've checked the Ospfilelist.txt file, and the reference to Dbmsadsn.dll has
been removed.  Yes, I've checked for other versions of the file on my
system.  I've modified the correct one.  I've even extracted the packeged
file and the reference to the dll is gone.  So...I've done the work-around,
but still have the issue.

Any input would be muchly appreciated!

I think you just need to copy dbmsadsn.dll to the System32 directory thst
usually solves it.  They did not include it in the latest version of XP but
the Runtime compiler looks for it unless you remove it from the setup
ospfilelist.txt befor creating the runtime version.
