Can we get an update on the status of the official support for Visual SourceSafe in Access 2003? It's getting quite cumbersome and annoying having to work around this lack of support!!
This has been an issue for several months now
Michael
Hi Michael,
From your description, I understand that you would like to know how to use
Visual SourceSafe with Access 2003. If there is anything I misunderstood,
please feel free to let me know.
We are really sorry for the inconvenience that source code control is not
available in Office 2003, However, if you have Office XP Developer Edition,
you could use it's Add-in as a workaround.
In this way, you have to already have Office XP Developer to get that
add-in and must also have Visual Source Safe 6.0c or (6.0d+hotfix from
822845).
You could use that control, follow the steps below:
1. Create a new directory to hold the add-in files, for example:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Productivity Tools.
Where C: is the drive Office 2003 is installed onto.
2. Locate the following folder on your Office Developer CD:
Office XP Developer - <CD>\Program Files\Microsoft Office
Developer\Productivity
Tools
Office 2000 Developer - <CD>\ODETools\v9\SCC
3. Copy the following four files from the CD to the folder you created in
step
one.
AccScc10.dll (if you use Office 2000 Developer this file will be
AccScc9.dll)
addsccus.dll
sccaccus.cnt
sccaccus.hlp
4. Manually register AccScc10.dll or AccScc9.dll using Regsvr32.exe. For
example,
on the Start menu, click Run. Clear the contents of the Open box, type the
following line and then click OK:
Regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Productivity
Tools\AccScc10.dll"
The add-in will now be recognized by Access 2003 and you should see the
Source Safe
menu as long as you have the VSS Client installed on the same computer.
If you are using VSS 6.0c, it will be fine with all above workaround.
if you are using VSS 6.0d, you will have to install Hotfix from: 822845
before you could use it
FIX: After You Archive and Then Restore a Project, OLE Automation Cannot
Retrieve Older Versions of a File

If you don't have Office XP Developer Edition, I am so sorry to that you
have to wait until the release of Office 2003 Service Pack 1,
it will be a sperate download for AccScc10.dll
I totally understand your frustration regarding this issue. (Actually I
don't think it is convenient either.) However, since the development team
decided
to remove this feature from Office 2003 system and we have to wait until
the release of Office 2003 Service Pack 1.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are here to be of assistance!
Sincerely yours,
Michael Cheng

But that workaround does not work with linked tables (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;837136&Product=acc2003)
Is there a beta that is available instead of waiting until a service pack is released. I cannot impress upon you what an inconvenience this is

Hi Michael,
We have recognized this inconvience that it could not work with Linked
Tables, However, I am afarid that no beta could be available now.
We truly apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused to you.
Although we have no idea when it will be available, once it is available, I
will try to be the first to let you know.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation again and if you have any
questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Cheng
