I have developed an application in access for one of my clients. I
used the Access 2003 Developer Extensions included with visual studio
for microsoft office to package and distribute a runtime version.
He lost his install cd and now he can not uninstall the application.
When he tries to go through the control panel it is asking him for the
cd. I tried sending him a new cd but that did not work. Is there a
clean way for him to uninstall?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Whilst I'm not familiar with A2003, this was also an issue with A2000 and
A2002.
I suggest (in my instruction sheet, which no customer reads of course!) that
they copy the CD to their hard disk and install from there, so the "install"
is always available.
If you say supplying a new CD didn't allow an uninstall, you must have
supplied one of your "upgraded CD's" and NOT AN ORIGINAL ONE for their
installation?
Anyway, what's wrong with your program? Why would you care about a customer
who wants to uninstall it? <VBG>)
Also, there are other problems with PDW installs as well. For instance, if
they installed the program twice or more (silly, but you can't stop a customer
doing that), then I believe it's impossible to remove properly.
