MS Access Forum / Conversion / February 2004Convert Foxpro DBF files into Access 2000
(originally posted this to Importing/Exporting/Linking, with no results) Hello, I've got three files in .DBF format that were exported from Mail Order Manager, a product which uses a Foxpro database. I've set up an ODBC data source using the Microsoft VFPOBDC.DLL, version 6.01.8629.01, as a System data source pointing to the directory where my three DBF files sit. When I try to import the files, however, only one of the three tables shows up in the "Import Objects" dialog. It's the smallest of the three - 1.3MB as opposed to 43MB and 84MB. I know I'm missing something fundamental - can someone give me a clue, via email if possible? Thanks! Hi Ned I've had this problem quite often...with both .DBF and .DB files. Depending on the version of DBF files, I think you will find that the filename more than likely exceeds the 8 characters allowed under DOS Simply rename the file to 8 or less characters. FWIW the FPT file is the memo file that accompanies DBFs that have memo fields. Hi Ned, Maybe this will help - as posted by VFP MVP Anders Altberg: You can have VFP DSN connections of two kinds, to free tables in a given folder or to a VFP database. If you connection is to a folder then any table (DBF-file) that is attached to a VFP database (a DBC-file) is not listed by ODBC even though it's stored in that folder.
