Hello,
i'm hoping someone can help me with this problem.
I am compacting my access '03 database and its creating the db1 copy but the
copy is not being deleted and my original database is not being compacted.
the original reopens without any error messages but i can see the size has
not changed which leaves me to believe it wasn't compacted.
i'm hoping someone know how to fix this as my database is ballooning like
you would not believe. thanks in advance!

Check, if you have full NTFS access to the directory where your mdb is
stored. Have you installed the Office Service Pack 2? Are you running
any antivirus program? Switch it off and try compacting your databasea
again.

Hi Stefan, thanks very much for your response. i finally tracked down my IT
person and they've installed service pack 3 on my machine as a trial. is
there any patch to fix this problem or do they have to uninstall the
software? thanks again for your assistance

There are some issues with Office SP3 and Access, but the bad news
first: You cannot uninstall the SP3.

You have to uninstall the entire Office. And reinstall it. Imho is SP3
under some circumstances not ready for productive use without prior
evaluation.
