WinXP/SP2 blocking unsigned activex codec

Hello,
I've downloaded some ASF files from my Canon Optima 300 DV camera to my
computer, but am unable to play them. The Canon manual states that Windows
Media Player (WMP) will automatically download the necessary codec on first
attempt to play a video. I have only been "partially successful," though;
WMP launches IE and gives me a message that it is downloading the codec. But
then I get a WMP Security Window popup stating that the download can't be
completed because the publisher can't be verified. I've tried decreasing the
security in my IE settings, but haven't had any greater success (Name:
sg726acm.cab; Publisher: Unknown Publisher).
Ultimately, I was able to download the codec directly, and after extracting
it, I put it in my Sys32 folder. Still, WMP doesn't seem to recognize that I
have the necessary codec and continues to try to download it whenever I try
to play any of my videos. I wondered if anyone had encountered this problem
or can suggest a workaround.
I'm running XP Pro with SP2.
Thanks,
Brett Shoelson

Sorry, you'll need to find a more appropriate newsgroup to ask your question
(such as one in the microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player hierarchy)

This newsgroup is intended for questions about using ActiveX controls in
Access, the database product that's part of Office Professional.

Okay...sorry. I thought that because Windows was blocking the installation
of an activex control, someone in the group might have some ideas.
