I am using both A2K and A2002 at the moment (on separate machines). When I
look in the list of ActiveX controls registered, there are hundreds. Is
there anywhere I can find some documentataion on which controls I can use
with Access and what they actually do?

There does not seem to be much standard documentation on this. I only
recently discovered the Date and Time Picker control - I wonder what other
useful ones are waiting on my system...?

Many thanks for any pointers,
Jim F.

I doubt very much you'll find much in the way of documentation, since those
controls come from far more vendors than simply Microsoft.

The bad news is that Access won't work with that many ActiveX controls.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=208283 lists a number of Microsoft
controls that can be used in Access 2000: I don't believe the list changed
for Access 2002.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=202104 explains why Access can't work
with a lot of controls. (Again, I don't believe anything changed in Access
2002)  If you want to know about a specific one, you'll have to get in touch
with the vendor to see whether it's supported. (You may need to show them
that article.)
