When I try to launch a program, I get "active-x component can't create
object".

What causes this and how do I fix it?

I am using w98se on a pc, ie/oe 5.x.

Thanks

in case you are talking about access - look at these articles:

This problem just suddenly appeared (I had done nothing [that I know of]
that would have caused the '"non-registration" of anything.

Another question - where do I find the DAO files (I do not know what they
are.)

Thanks.

search your disk for dao360.dll
also look at menu tools-references, could be that some reference is missing
there

Found the dll in program files\common files\microsoft\dao, so I guess that
(missing) is not the reason. [Should I re-save it from the CABs???]

Did not understand the menu tools etc.

I clicked tools in both ie and oe and did not find /references/.

I am using w98se, ie/oe 5.x

you have to register it
Look at links to articles below, there you can find exact steps to do

Thanks, those links take me to YOUR website - now what??

I don't see anything about "exact steps" to do anything.

I registered the "DAO360.DLL" file and another file "DAO350.DLL" found in
the same directory.

That did not cure the problem.

Because the error occurs on bootup I am not in any application (also do not
use Access) so the other suggestions in the first link and all suggestions
in the second link do not apply.

The error occurs on bootup and the program is not launched from the startup
directory.

But I can launch the program after bootup.

Any other suggestions?

Well, then this is probably some of applications which loads during windows
startup. Look at startup folder and try to run every program listed there to
find out which cause this error

I already know which program is causing the problem.

It won't run at startup (gives error TWICE.)

When the program launches, it displays its icon in the tray (same action
when launched as described below.) Because the error messages occur at the
time the icon should appear in the tray (and the icon does NOT appear now) I
know which program is failing.

I then went to the program folder and clicked on the program icon there (I
have shortcuts and previously tried them) and the program launched without
any errors (both from the shortcut and from the program folder's icon.)

This did not prove anything to me - what do you determine from this action?

Let's back up a bit - MY mistake - I know which program is failing (not the
one I described.) That one launches both at bootuup and clicking on the
program icon.

Yes the program fails both when (not) launched at bootup and when I click on
the program icon.

You said something about registering something in the program folder (I
think?)

What do I do now that the program fits your description of failure?

Additional comment about the program.

I cannot uninstall the program either by clicking on the uninstall icon in
the program folder or by clicking on the program in add/remove from the
control panel.

one is missing - you get mentioned error. actually this forum for Microsoft
Access support, so we can give advices about it mostly

I had thought that this forum was for ActiveX questions and did not realize
that it actually was for Access (only) support.

Which forum should I access for the ActiveX support so I am not off topic?

Thanks for the suggestions anyhow.
